CONQUER NEGATIVE THINKING HABITS AND BUILD A POSITIVE MINDSET

It’s said that you can’t see the big picture when you’re standing too close. Oftentimes we may become engrossed in a myriad of negative thoughts all because we’re looking at the picture from a distorted perspective. Next time you find yourself hyper-fixating on little things throughout your day check to see if you’re falling prey to these negative thinking habits!

Jumping To Conclusions

When you jump to conclusions, you convince yourself that you are certain about someone else’s thoughts towards you. More often than not, these thoughts are negative and unsupported by actual facts. Be aware of your thought habits! For example, let’s say you had a thought like ‘My boss thinks I’m stupid for making that mistake’ or ‘Everyone is judging me because I got the answer wrong’. Ask yourself, ‘Is that actually true? Do I have substantial evidence that proves it’s true?’ If the answer is no, then you’re just feeding yourself negative self-talk and jumping to conclusions.

Negative Lens

Have you ever met someone who sees the glass half empty even when the glass is actually full? Yeah, me too. However, we all have those days when we choose to ignore all the great things and hyper-fixate on all the negatives in the situation. Therefore, when you find yourself looking through the Negative Lens, take a moment to list out all the positive things at play. Write them down and put them somewhere you can see them. That way, you’ll have a physical reminder that things really aren’t as bad as they may appear.

Bad Psychic

People commonly speak about their haters but the truth is, sometimes we’re our own biggest haters. When we convince ourselves that our future will pan out negatively, we place ourselves into an unwarranted prison of anxiety and depression. Thoughts such as ‘I’m gonna fail this exam’ or ‘I won’t make it past the interview’ are examples of our very own Bad Psychic. Keep these thoughts in check by practicing positive self-talk.
